During the Blue Mission BANOS event in Sopot, the π½ππ‘π©ππ§πππ project was highlighted in a dedicated workshop addressing underwater ammunition and shipwrecks as one of the major environmental threats to the Baltic Sea.
The session titled ππ§π€π’ ππͺπ¨π© π©π€ πππ¨π : πππ’π€π«ππ£π ππ§πππ π¨ ππ£π ππͺπ£ππ©ππ€π£π¨ ππ§π€π’ π©ππ π½ππ‘π©ππ showcased the projectβs key goals: preventing chemical pollution from leaking wrecks and munition dumps through:
developing harmonised management plans for hazardous wrecks,
supporting decision-makers with risk-based data and tools,
raising public awareness β for example, through educational tools such as virtual wreck tours.
The workshop brought together partners from nine European projects:
πΈBaltWreck, πΈMUNI-RISK, πΈMUNIMAP, πΈMMinE-SwEEPER, πΈREMARCO, πΈCONMAR II, πΈEROVMUS, πΈBorDEx, πΈIRAV β creating a joint knowledge-sharing platform to drive cleaner and safer seas.
The workshops focused on a joint approach to the issue of sunken munitions and shipwrecks β a real threat to the environment, safety, and economic development in the Baltic Sea region.
We discussed new technologies, risk mapping, education, cooperation with local governments, and the need for creating transnational management mechanisms.
Through the shared exchange of knowledge and experiences, we are building a European cooperation network for safe, clean, and sustainable seas.
Thank you to everyone for your presence and inspiring discussions!
