BALTWRECK in eFEkty: Old Ships, New Environmental Challenges

We are pleased to share that the BALTWRECK project has been featured in the latest issue of eFEkty – European Funds in Poland, a bulletin published by the Polish Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy.

The article, „Old Ships, New Problems”, presented on pages 18–19, focuses on the environmental threats posed by hazardous shipwrecks resting on the Baltic Sea seabed. It explains the risks associated with the potential release of fuel and other hazardous substances into the marine environment and presents the objectives and activities of the BALTWRECK project.

The publication describes how the project partners investigate selected shipwrecks, collect and analyse environmental samples, and develop innovative methods to reduce the risk of pollution and support the protection of the Baltic Sea ecosystem.

The article also includes expert commentary from researchers at the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who discuss the scale of the challenge and the importance of scientific research in addressing the environmental risks posed by underwater wrecks.

We are proud that BALTWRECK has been featured in this publication, helping to raise awareness of one of the Baltic Sea’s most pressing environmental challenges and the role of international cooperation in developing effective solutions.
